Sadly Christmas isn't fun for everyone

Although Christmas is a wonderful time for many young people, for others it is a time of stress, anxiety, domestic arguments and even physical or mental abuse.

Over the last 5 years our team at Youth Suicide Prevention Ireland have seen an average 364% increase in mental health crisis contacts over the Christmas and New Year period compared to the rest of the year.

We know that this Christmas will also be financial stressful for many families with expectations higher than budgets, so we are expecting a higher than usual number of young people experiencing mental health crises this year.

Please consider becoming a Beacon of Hope this Christmas and  donating to our Christmas Appeal so we can provide crisis support services to all the young people looking for help during the holidays and into 2025.

Become a Beacon

This Christmas, we have the power to make a difference in the lives of our young people who are struggling with their mental health. Our Christmas initiative focuses on providing crucial mental health support and access to crisis counselling services where young people can feel heard, understood, and supported. But to continue our life-saving work, we rely on the generosity of people like you.

You can become a Beacon of Hope to a young person struggling with a mental health issue this Christmas.

A small donation can go a long way.  Your donation can help fund crisis counselling sessions, our 24/7 crisis information services, and educational programmes for schools, students, teachers and parents during Christmas and into 2025.  Your donation can bring a glimmer of light to a young person struggling in silence.

Together, we can help change the narrative of this holiday season. Let's ensure that every young person feels the warmth and care they deserve. Your support can save a life and bring about a brighter future. This Christmas, let's gift hope and healing, a Beacon in the darkness.

Donate €5 now and you can become a Beacon of Hope in a young person's life and help us to help them.

All donations are made via Stripe our payment processor.  We have no access to your payment information at any time.  All data is secure and encrypted on EU based servers.

CRISIS COUNSELLING

We provide access to youth crisis counselling services as well as online crisis information and 24/7 FreeText crisis services.

In our 16 years working with young people across Ireland we have never experienced such a high volume of mental health support requests.  First it was COVID, then Ukraine, then a cost of living crisis and now Gaza, our young people are getting no opportunity to recover in a world with so many anxieties coming at them.

We have been running our Let's Talk About Mental Health Programme for Schools since March 2020 and it has been extremely well-received by the 727 secondary schools that we have provided Mental Health Awareness resources to this year.  The basic concept of the Let's Talk About Mental Health Programme is that we should be more receptive to talking about mental health issues and educate ourselves about mental health issues.

You can view/download your free copy of our 48 page Let'sTalk About Mental Health booklet HERE.   A new version of our Parents' Handbook to Youth Mental Health is available to view/download HERE

You can also request a Mental Health Resource Pack for your organisation, group or GAA club HERE.  We also have a 30 minute video presentation available presented by John Sharpson which can be viewed HERE.

All this is funded by the sale of our Beacon Bears which can be yours for €20 €15.

About Youth Suicide Prevention Ireland

Youth Suicide Prevention Ireland (YSPI) is a charitable organisation founded in 2007 with a specific focus on addressing the issues of youth suicide and self-harm in Ireland. The organisation operates independently, receiving no funding from the state. Instead, it relies entirely on financial support from personal donors who trust our Trustees to use their contributions effectively.

As of November 1, 2024, the end of our last financial year,  it cost 11 cents per euro to run the charity. This means that 89% of the funds we receive are available to support programmes like the Schools Programme and the Youth Crisis Counselling Service. The main administrative expenditures of the charity are insurance and auditing.

The charity's Board of Trustees is composed of volunteers who do not receive any salary or compensation for their time and service. They are independent of each other and have no familial relations.  The Trustees have no direct access to charity funds but have 24/7 access to the financial records and books to ensure transparency and proper use of donations.

The charity has no mortgages or major outstanding debts and strives to maintain cash reserves of 10% of annual income for emergencies.

There are only two contracted staff members, both trained facilitators who provide the Schools Mental Health Awareness Programme throughout the country. They are paid approximately €25,000 per year each.  Additionally, the charity employs a part-time bookkeeper to manage accounts and independent auditors to verify the completeness and accuracy of financial statements.

Our commitment to transparency is evident in the availability of our latest Annual Report and Audited Financial Statements, which can be viewed and downloaded from our main charity website at www.yspi.ie

The charity is registered with the Irish Charities Regulator under registration number 20070670 and can be verified on the regulator's website at www.charitiesregulator.ie.  We are also registered as a tax-exempt charitable trust by the Irish Revenue Commissioners under charity number CHY18438 and are an approved body under the Charities Donation Scheme.
